Fatally Wounds the Latter's Father.

Special to the Indianapolis Journal.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill., April 19.-A doubly

fatal shooting affray took place this after-

noon five miles south of Heyworth, in this

county, the result of a long-existing family

feud. Alex. Halsey and Elias Brock are

farmers living near together, and of late

years have been bitter enemies. At the last

term of the McLean County Circuit Court

a slander suit between them occupied the

attention of court several days and the

whole neighborhood was drawn in as wit-

nesses. This afternoon Halsey, with his

two sons, one Luther Halsey, aged four-

teen, was driving past where Charles

Brock, son of Elias, was building a fence,

when the affray took place. Just how the

encounter began is not given. Halsey was

unarmed, but the Brock boy had a revolver

and used it with fatal effect. Luther Hal-

sey was instantly killed and Alex. Halsey

was shot twice in the neck and head and

will die. Brock gave himself up, claiming

that he was assaulted and did the shooting

in self-defense.
