First Annual YMCA
Invitational Meet
Final preparations for the YMCA Invitational Basketball Tournament have been completed, and the big event gets underway as scheduled Wednesday at 7:30.
A total of eight ball clubs have been entered in the event, and according to tournament officials fast and furious basketball is expected in all contests.
Because of the amateur ruling for the games, the squads from the shipyard and from Camp Davis have been forced out of action for this particular attraction. But the eight teams listed the tournament have teen playing an excellent brand of hoop ball.
Highlighting the event in the line of entries is the flashy Hep-Cats who hail from the local high school. and consist of all high school basketballers. Among them is lanky 'Legs' McKoy. who led the Eastern conference in points for this past season; Walter Deal, who played several tilts for the 'Cats before taking an afternoon job and quitting the game; Kelly, brilliant defensive star of the school lads. and Doug Pridgen, star guard for the outfit
Also in the limelight is a recently organized squad from the new Maffitt Homes settlement, along with the other teams: U. S. Coast Guard, First Baptist, Coppersmiths, YMCA and the Shipyard Welders.
