crime against Gen. Harrison.
The
Enquirer would be delighted to have
the abolitionists on the side
of Martin Van Buren.
The abolitionists have nothing to hope ei-
ther way from the coming presiden-
tial contest, for the advancement
of their views. If they were blind
enough to entertain any such hope,
they would rally upon Mr. Van Bu-
ren, who might be rendered practi-
cable if it suited his political purpos-
es. From Gen. Harrison they have
nothing to hope, for he has never giv-
en them encouragement. Throwing
aside, then, all hope of making aboli-
tion capital out of the election, the
Fanatics will enter upon the canvass
with the great mass of the people, and
their preference either way can be
regarded only as evincing their opin-
ion of the qualifications of the candi-
dates to promote the general interests
of the Country, without reference to
any isolated question. No Harrison
man will feel himself insulted if they
should prefer to vote for Gen. Harri-
son; and the signs which the En-
quirer is constantly throwing out,
show very clearly that its party would
be exceedingly thankful for small fa-
vors from any quarter.
