SEATTLE, (P) The long-awaited Battelle report on the best ways to improve Alaska's land connections with the rest of the continental United States will be made public here Nov. 11.
The report will be received by the Alaska International Rail and Highway Commission, which hired the Battelle Memorial Institute of Columbus, Ohio, to conduct the survey.
Sen. Warren G. Magnuson, D. Wash., Commission chairman, said the report will be taken under advisement for the decision on what recommendations will be made to Congress.
Magnuson indicated the Commission also will give serious consideration to other Alaska-British Columbia problems, among them the need for lateral highways from British Columbia west to the Alaska Panhandle.
The report by the Battelle Institute, one of the nation's leading research organizations, will include ways to better both rail and highway connections with Alaska and the cost.
