HJALMAR PETERSEN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED
(The Northland Times)
In the November 2 issue of the Askov American the newspaper from which this editorial was clipped was inadvertently omitted. Its re-publication herewith is for the purpose of giving proper credit to the writer of the editorial.
Hjalmar Petersen, present Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner, should be given serious consideration when the candidate to oppose Governor Stassen is picked in 1940. Certainly the fact that he polled 208,000 votes against Governor Benson in the primaries, the man that was in office, should warrant every kind of consideration.
Also the fact that he opposed the so-called Mexican Generals in the Farmer-Labor party, a course of action that has deprived him of being Governor before, should ring true with liberals who were never in favor of a small group dominating the Farmer-Labor party. It has been mighty enlightening to a large group of Farmer-Laborites that Hjalmar Petersen was on the right track when he attempted to bomb the Mexican Generals out of the Farmer-Labor party.
Also too, he would be getting votes from the Republicans that are not completely sold on the Stassen administration and the tactics that have been Mr. Stassen's since he went into office on the large protest vote.
