SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY at Baton Rouge, La., receives charter for
Louisiana Beta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, National Mathematics
Honorary Fraternity. Presenting the charter to John Gipson, elected
director of local chapter, is Dr. J. Sutherland Frame, deputy
general of the fraternity. Upholding rigid academic standards,
the fraternity is known for the honor of belonging rather than
the honor it bestows on members having achieved distinction in
the field of pure mathematics. Twenty-one members of the
mathematics faculty and student majors were initiated during
the installation. Ten were charter members.
