GRAZING LAND CONTROVERSY AWAITS DECREE

County Treasurer W. M. Cox told a Dispatch reporter last evening in connection with the announcement that Monday is the last day for paying taxes, that the supreme court has not yet handed down its decision on the disputed grazing land tax and this tax cannot be paid until the decision is rendered.

In 1926 the county assessors placed the grazing land tax at $2. The state tax commission disagreed with this assessment and ordered the tax raised to $3. The Cochise county board of supervisors declined to change the assessment and the matter went to court where it progressed.

The supreme court has now heard the matter and a decision is expected at any time. Cox said last evening that as soon as that decision is rendered those with grazing land assessments will be notified that their tax is due and payable.
