Full Text

The Little Giant on Know-Nothings. The Democrats of this district wrote to Senator Douglas requesting him to attend the Hansford glorification that failed in Preston's woods last Saturday. Douglas could not come, but he wrote a letter in which he spoke of the American party as the "most intolerant, proscriptive, insidious, and dangerous political organization ever formed against the constitution and liberties of a free country."

Why not have adopted the language of Wise, and called the Know-Nothings a "Godless, lousy, and Christless set ?" Such abuse has the merit of terseness, at least. and lies should always be made short.--Louisville Journal,
