For the Advocate.

Mr. Editor:—I noticed in your last paper an article in which the writer recommends an asylum for the care and cure of inebriates, if the sale of spirituous liquors cannot be stopped. I agree with him in thinking such an institution desirable if the traffic cannot be stopped. For one I am of opinion that there has not been much effort made to stop this iniquitous business in Greenville, except on the part of a few. I think we have temperance men enough in our community to put down such things, if they will arise in their might and march into the camp of the enemy and demand an unconditional surrender. Let the test be made and every one show his true colors.

If our town laws are not sufficient to protect us from such an enemy to our peace and prosperity, it is time we had better; and if our laws are right, let every temperance man join in the crusade against this monster vice, and never sign a treaty of peace till he shows his hydra-head no longer within our limits. Be assured that your hands will be stayed up, and your hearts cheered by the prayers and blessings of
