The same Day his Excellency, in the Council Chamber, made a Speech to both Houses,

wherein he acquainted them, that having met them and attended their Election agreeable to Charter, they might proceed, as they should judge fit, to the Consideration of such other Matters as might properly come before them, and ought to be entered upon previous to the first of next Month;

and he assured them that he should with Pleasure concur with them, to the utmost of his Power, in all Matters that tend to the Prosperity of the Province.

That he mentioned the first of next Month, because he had the King's particular Command for holding the General Court at Salem from that Day.

That, in the short Time of his taking upon him the Government, he could mention no other Burthen upon them but supplying the Treasury for the Support of Government for the ensuing Year.
