The dispute between the state of North Carolina & this state relative to Walton County, it must be recollected was taken up at the last session of our General Assembly, and they requested his Excellency the Governor to employ Andrew Ellicott, Esq. to ascertain the 35th degree of north latitude, and that in case North Carolina did not associate some other artist on her part, that he be authorised to instruct Mr. Ellicott to ascertain it, for the satisfaction of Georgia.
The General Assembly also requested his Excellency the Governor to communicate to the Executive of North Carolina, the wishes and reasons of the state of Georgia, for a speedy and final adjustment of the respective claims of each state to the territory known in this state as Walton county and that they have on their part employed Mr. Ellicott as an artist for this purpose, and in case of a coincidence of the state of North Carolina in the resolution, that then the observation taken should be final & conclusive. We are informed Mr. Ellicott has notified Governor Mitchell that he will attend accordingly, and is making the necessary preparations--and the Executive of North Carolina has declined making any further arrangements on the subject.
