Saturday last arrived here two Dutch ships taken the 24th of October last in Latitude 29, 11 North, and Long. 36. 18 West, by the Privateer Brig Johnson, Capt. Nicholas Horton, of this Place; The one is called the Sea Packet, Burthen about 450 Tons, 12 Guns; the other called the Dolphin, about 430 Tons, 22 Guns; They Say they came from Curacoa, and were bound to Amsterdam; but the Captors have Reason to assure they are European Vessels bound from the Cape to France; and that they are richly loaded with French Cargoes, consisting of Indigo, Sugar, &c.

There arrived here the same Day another Dutch Vessel taken also by Captain Horton, at the same Time, and which was one of the Company of the aforenamed two Dutchmen, is loaded with the like Commodities, and was bound from and to the same Ports with them. She is now called the Snalley Loper; and, it is reported that Mynheer the Commander, on his Passage hither, by some Hocus Pocus Trick or other, transformed himself into a Frenchman; for, on Sunday the 19th Instant, the Prince Edward French Frigate, Monsieur Chateleau, hove in sight, and obliged Mr. Bridges, the English Prize Master to bring to, when Mynheer, no doubt with the usual sneering, lugged out his French Papers, and shewed them to Chateleau, who immediately removed Capt. Horton's Men on Board the Frigate, and gave Klaas his Snow to proceed on his Voyage, which he endeavoured to do, but on the Day following Captain Troup, in the Sturdy Beggar, of this Place came across him, seized him Neck and Heels, and sent him in here.

On Monday the 20th Instant, the Frigate took the Ship St. George, from Boston bound hither with Cloathing, &c. but ransomed her for 200l. She also came up here on Saturday, and brought from on board the Frigate, Mr. Bridges, Prize Master of the Snow just before mentioned, and several others of Capt. Horton's Men. This ship made the 23d Prize taken on this Coast, by Monf. Chateleau:----

The St. George spoke to the Sturdy Beggar, (who carries 20 9 Pounders) about 4 Hours after she was ransomed, and informed Capt. Troup, that the Frigate could not then be above fifteen Leagues distant such a Course, when the Crew consisting of near 200 stout resolute Men, gave three hearty Cheers, and Troup crowded all the Sail he could in, quest of her; and it is hoped he will come across her.

When the St. George left the Frigate there were nine Ransomers on board her, and she had not above 50 odd Hands, but is very deep, as he loads herself Out of the Prizes.

Notwithstanding Monsieur Chateleau used many of his Prisoners with great Humanity, yet his ordering a Broadside to be poured into the St. George, after he had struck, by which one Woman was killed and another had her Arm shot off, cannot be said to be in the least consistent with the Character of a good Soldier.
