BEAUTIFUL COLUMBIA.
When Zolnay, the St. Louis sculptor, was here, he said Columbia had the most beautiful streets of any city of its size that he had ever seen. Broadway, with its white way and its length; Hitt street with the Rothwell Gymnasium at the end, and many other streets, are grand enough to make Columbia proud of them.
The next thing to impress the sculptor were the Columns and the University campus. And yet the artist did not see the campus when the vines and the green of summer add to its beauty, making it, we are told, the most beautiful university campus in America. Columbia can well be proud that it is the home of the University of Missouri.
Columbia is proud of the Boone County courthouse. The magnificence of this building is notable for any county not having a large city within it. It is a credit to Boone County and to Columbia.
Columbia can well afford to be proud of its light and water plant. From the Wabash trains, the building and great concrete chimney give the incoming stranger a pleasant sensation. The plant is equipped in a first-class condition and would be a credit to any city of 50,000 population.
Columbia has a high-school building that it is proud of. Like Columbia's water and light plant, this high-school building would do a larger city credit. It is constructed in the latest improved ideas.
Likewise Columbia has beautiful railroad stations. Though they are small, they are modern and new and give the traveler a pleasing welcome.
Indeed. Columbia has many things to be proud of. She has beautiful churches. colleges for women, fine residences and business houses.
