Crop Is Unusually Fine-No Rain in Last Week But Much Moisture in Soil.
Much honey is being extracted from hives by bee keepers in this community in the last several days, J. Herman Paarman, curator of the Davenport Academy of Science, reported today.
There is a large crop this season of an exceptionally fine quality. The honey is unusually light in color, but its quality is good, Mr. Paarman said. Report of R. C. Arp, rural mail carrier, says that threshing is well under way, early corn is up to its normal growth for this time of the year, the second cutting of alfalfa is under way, and the second crop of clover has begun to bloom. The early peaches and plums are beginning to ripen, Mr. Paarman reports.
Although there has been no rain in the last week, with the exception of a trace Saturday, there is plenty of moisture in the ground, Andrew H. Hamrick, local weather man, says. It will be sultry for the next 24 hours, with a possibility of showers.
In the last 48 hours, the river at this point rose one foot due to the heavy rains in northeastern Iowa. The river will continue to rise at Muscatine, but will change little here.
Last evening was very cool, the high temperature for the day being 87 degrees, with the relative humidity by evening down to 50. Saturday with a high temperature of 85, had a relative humidity of 77.
