Sabotage Rumor On U. S. Warship
SAN PEDRO, Cal., Oct. 7. (UP) All leaves of sailors aboard the battleship U.S.S. Arizona were cancelled today, reportedly following discovery of evidence of a sabotage plot aboard the warship.
Naval authorities declined to make any comment whatsoever on a report that an effort had been planned to damage the big dreadnaught which is one of the units of the navy's main battle force.
The spokesmen for Admiral Claude C. Bloch, commander-in-chief of the United States fleet, refused also to comment on whether a casualty occurred aboard the ship in connection with such a plot.
Orders cancelling leaves aboard the Arizona also brought all shore-going members of her crew back aboard the ship, after a week of target practice in the navy's drill waters off San Clemente Island, the Arizona had returned to the fleet anchorage in San Pedro yesterday. The dreadnaught is the flagship of Rear Admiral Russell Wilson, commander of the battleship division No. 1. Capt. I. C. Kidd is her commander.
