MALICIOUS MISCHIEF.
Three young fellows, the eldest about 21 years of age, were apprehended on Monday last, charged with entering the First Congregational Meeting-House in this town, on the preceding evening, and tearing the large pulpit Bible in pieces, and also several Hymn Books, and the Testaments and other books belonging to the children who attend the Sunday School. They also took all the lamps from their sockets, and emptied the oil on the cushions and seats of the pews; then took the leaves which they had torn from the Bible and scattered them in the street. Two of the same fellows were also charged with breaking open the store of Messrs. James Hathaway & Co. and robbing it of articles of no great value. A handkerchief which a lady had left in her pew being found on one, and a box of Spanish cigars on another, led to their detection. On their examination, one of them confessed all the facts, and they have been committed to Taunton Jail.
