TRIUMPH IN TENNESSEE

Gen. Trousdale, the Governor elect of Tennessee, was waited upon at Gallatin on the 8th ult., by a delegation of Democrats from Nashville-who congratulated him upon his election. Mr. Nicholson addressed the Governor elect in behalf of the delegation, and as his speech shows to the world the issue upon which the Democrats won their glorious victory in Tennessee, we copy a portion of it. Mr. Nicholson said :

" By your fearless denunciations of Northern aggression ; by your prompt repudiation of all temporising remedies : and by your firm and able vindication of the doctrines of resistance "at all hazards- and to the last extremity." you have won the hearts and sympathies of thousands who were only restrained by party trammels from giving you their votes, whilst you have enkindled in the bosoms of your supporters the warmest admiration and the sincerest gratitude. From your triumph over Northern feuds (for we have Northern friends) will take fresh courage ; whilst our Northern enemies will learn that they have waked up a spirit of resistance in the South which proclaims to them in language as just as sturdy. Thus far shalt thou go, and no farther is a moral weight and force in our triumph that will startle the multiism nanwillcy

equality amongst the States. Around that glorious Union cluster the warmest affections of our hearts-we would risk all for its preservation, not excepting life itself. Having stood upon this high ground in the late canvass ; having maintained it with signal ability and having triumphed upon it we are prepared to appreciate fully your noble triumph. an l to extend :o you with heartfelt sincerity our warmest congratulations."
