The family of Schwarzenburg. This family is one of the most ancient houses of Germany. The Prince John is a sovereign prince of the German Empire; to him belongs the Principality of Schwarzenburg & the country of Seisheim situated in the circle of Franconia: besides he is possessed of much property on the Rhine, in Switzerland, Bohemia, Moravia, &c. This house has been ardently attached to the house of Austria, under the government of which they have held the highest stations—and with the house of Lichtenstein are considered the richest Princes of Europe. Their Palace at Vienna, is the best after Prince Lichtenstein's, but their park, which is open for the amusement of the public, is considered the best in Europe, even superior to the Belvidere. The reigning prince John of Schwarzenburg was born in 1769. The commander of the Austrian force, Prince Charles, was born 13th April, 1771, consequently is now in his 43d year. The Arch Duke Charles Louis John of Austria is brother to the Emperor Francis 2d, and was born the 5th September, 1771, and is therefore within a few months of the same age as Prince Charles of Schwarzenburg. The Arch Duke Charles. is Generalissimo of all the Austrian forces—Prince Charles of Schwarzenburg, is Commander in Chief of a particular army.
