FIRST SANTA TO VISIT NATIVES ON PORCUPINE

DAWSON, Y. T., Oct. 3.

Jacob Njootli, an Indian trader, trapper and school teacher, recently arrived here from Rampart House, on the Porcupine.

"I had the honor of arranging and carrying out the first Christmas tree celebration ever held in that vicinity," he said.

I had a little tree lighted with candles and decorated. The Indians, old and young, stood and sat around, delighted, and then came the surprise for them.

"They thought the devil had got in their midst and stampeded, but I persuaded them to come back."
