EXPEDITIOUS TRAVELLING

From a Correspondent of the New York Commercial Advertiser at Montreal, dated August 12th.

" Flour is thirteen dollars North at Montreal and Quebec, and very dull at that price. Great quantities are now on the way to this city, and largo supply is daily expected at Quebec from Philadelphia and other southern ports.

" The Car of Commerce Steam-Boat, which runs between this and Quebec, I found far superior to my most sanguine expectations. Not one of the boats on North River is equal to her, in point of accommodation. She measures 173 ft. deck, 30 feet beam, and 670 tons burthen; and her engine is of fifty horses power.

" While on the subject of steam-boats, I cannot omit to mention the Phoenix, on Lake Champlain, commanded by the well known capt. Sherman. The Phoenix is replete with every convenience.

" The route from New York to Quebec by Steam-boats, can be performed in less than eight days. You leave New-York on Saturday evening, and arrive at Albany in the afternoon of Sunday. On Monday or Tuesday morning, as suits your wishes, you have your choice of two Stages--the one goes on the west side of the Hudson, through Stillwater and Sandy Hill, and the other takes the northern turnpike to Grenville, and thence to Whitehall. By either route, you arrive at this place on Monday evening; and on Wednesday at 2 P. M. embark for St. Johns, and reach Montreal on Thursday evening. On Sunday morning you take your passage in the Car of Commerce, and find yourself in Quebec on the evening of the same day. Thus, in eight days you complete the distance from New York to Quebec, resting one day, either at Albany or Whitehall and two at Montreal. Perhaps the view you have on the St. Lawrence, is not surpassed by any of the same distance in any part of the world. On our way to Quebec we passed upwards of sixty square rigged vessels, many of which were under full sail."
