PHILADELPHIA, November 9. Capt. Peele, from Lisbon, informs, that on the 24th of September, in lat. 36. long. 15 36. he fell in with three Sallee men of war, of 32 guns each, who ordered him to hoist out his boat, and come on board them, which he did, and after producing his Mediterranean Pass, they detained him four hours, and then ordered him to proceed on his voyage. The next morning he saw a sail to windward, which immediately bore down for him, and came up with him about noon, when they fired a gun hoisted a red flag, and ordered him on board; that on shewing him his pass, the Captain ordered him under a guard of 18 men, while they went on board his Brig, plundered his cabin of all his stores and necessaries; took away his books and instruments, shirts, wearing apparel, and several things of value; struck his mate several times, and used all his people very ill, threatening to stab them if they did not open their chests, that they might take what they pleased: That one of their slaves told him, while he was on board, the ship belonged to the Emperor of Morocco; that they had lately sailed from Nova Sallee on a cruize, had taken several Spanish ships, and plundered a great many others. They detained him till evening, and then ordered him on board his own vessel.
