ACCUSES SUPERINTENDENT.

Former Inmate of West Virginia Insane Hospital Makes Charges.

Weston, W. Va., Aug. 17.- The investigation by the board of directors of the state hospital for the insane of charges of gross immorality against Dr. W. E. Strathers, the superintendent, was begun today.

Mrs. Mary I. Sommerville, an attractive young woman, who was an inmate of the asylum and discharged as cured, told of Dr. Strathers's conduct toward her just before her dismissal: of his visits to her room, to which he gained entrance by means of a pass key.

Mrs. Sommerville was for a few weeks mentally unbalanced by nervousness.

She was still on the stand when the board adjourned till tomorrow.
