Last Monday, about 12 o'clock, two Irishmen, James Cain and Thomas Beecher, sailors, at work for Mr. H. Oliver, and Wm. W. Motley, in Congress-street, quarrelled, it is said, about their ages and the prowess of Beecher in a former combat, when B. struck Cain, first in the face and then in the bowels. Two other persons were present. Some persons assisted him home. Medical aid was called, but without effect. He died about 11 o'clock on Tuesday, A. M. On examination of the body, after death, by Drs. Otis and Lewis, it was found that one of the small intestines [the ileum] had been ruptured by the blow. An inquest was held on Tuesday afternoon, before Prince Snow, Esq. Coroner, when a verdict was returned, that the deceased came to his death by blows from Thomas Beecher.
