Murder and Robbery.—We have seen a proclamation of the lieutenant-governor of Upper Canada, offering one hundred pounds reward for the apprehension of a fugitive by the name of John Christie, alias Welman. He is charged with the murder and robbery of a young man named Isaac James, of Uxbridge, in the Home District, U. C. The particulars of the murder as given, are, that young James was found dead behind a log heap near the roadside, in the township of Whitechurch, on the 30th ult. and from several gun-shot and other wounds inflicted on his person, no doubt exists of his having been barbarously murdered. Suspicion fastened on the fugitive Christie, in consequence of the deceased having left home for the purpose of conveying Christie and his family to York in a carriage and wagon. Christie is described as being about 5 feet 6 inches high, tolerably stout, dark eyes and hair, but of a fair complexion, full face, apparently from 25 to 30 years of age, and a native of Ireland. His wife is a middle sized woman— his eldest child, a son, about 3 years old—the a younger a daughter, about a year old; both of them have red hair, fair skin, full freckled faces.—The wagon which was stolen, with two mares, was a good one, with a white linen cover.

A person answering this description was in this village on Sunday last; and we understand has been traced as far as Victor, Ontario county, where on Tuesday last, he effected an exchange of wagons.—Rochester, N. Y. Tel.

[Christie has since been apprehended.]
