Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Hilgert were guests at a dinner Sunday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Marcus of Bridger. The event honored Mr. and Mrs. Erland Marcus of Port Carbon, La. Other guests were Mrs. Esther Wilson, Max Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter, Charles Hunter and Miss Katherine Bradic, all of Bridger.
Mr. and Mrs. Verne Nicola and son Kenny Lee of Basin, Wyo., were guests Tuesday of Mr. Nicola's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Warfield.
Mr. and Mrs. George Blevens of Powell, Wyo., were guests this week of relatives. Mr. Blevens had received his discharge from the service and was returning from the west coast.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Russell had as guests Sunday Miss Lena Gesaule and Miss Peggy Russell of Billings, and Virgil Russell, who recently received his discharge at an army camp in the east.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Green and family were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Gunnels, east of Laurel.
Mrs. H. E. Smith reports that her nephew, Roy Jones of Columbus, formerly of Laurel, underwent an operation Tuesday at the Columbus hospital.
Mr and Mrs. E. D. Calvert had as guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bender, Gordon Bender, Jr., and Ray Trubey, all of Billings.
Miss Alta Boylan, who was recently discharged from the Women marines, left Monday for Washington, D. C., where she will be employed.
Mrs. C. L. Morris was hostess Tuesday afternoon to her contract club and guests, Miss Mary Sande, Mrs. John Laird and Mrs. R. H. Sterrett. Scoring honors were won by Mrs. D. H. McCauley and Mrs. J. A. Spencer and Mrs. Laird received a guest prize.
Mrs. L. R. Stickelberger will entertain her sewing club at dessert Tuesday evening with Mrs. J. L. Childs as a guest.
I. A. Renner of Bismarck, N. D., was a guest Tuesday of his aunt, Mrs. H. L. Moon and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Dow Edwards visited last week at the homes of the Hemphill families of Rapelje.
The birthdays of two members were noted when the Adult Bible Fellowship held a pot luck supper Tuesday evening at the Methodist church. The honorees were Mrs. Merritt Williams and Mrs. Ted Webb.
A recreation program conducted by Mrs. W. T. Johnson was entertainment, with Mrs. Frank Taylor playing the musical accompaniment. The next meeting will observe the annual banquet of the Fellowship.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kem and family of Columbus were guests last week of Mrs. Kem's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Steele.
Mrs. H. E. Smith had as a guest several days last week her sister, Mrs. Ellen M. Hall, of Billings, a former resident of Laurel.
Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Steele had as guest last week Mrs. Steele's nephew, Gerald Fieldhouse of Dodgeville, Wis., who was discharged at Salt Lake City, Utah, after service overseas.
Laurel Happenings
Miss Lila Green, Miss Georgia Green and Miss Doris Downs of Billings were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Green.
Mr. and Mrs. Burl Carter and children of Bridger were guests last week of his mother, Mrs. Laura Carter.
Mrs. Helen Shearer has received word that her son, George Shearer, has been promoted to sergeant. He is stationed with the air corps in India.
Mr. and Mrs. Lou Franzen had as guests Saturday to Monday Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wattles who were en route from Seattle to their home in Beaver Crossing, Neb.
Mrs. Bertha Shively returned Tuesday from a visit with her son, D. R. Shively of Spokane, Wash., and her daughter, Mrs. E. S. Shoemaker of Harlowton.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane Maxson returned Thursday from spending a week at Thermopolis, Wyo.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Moon were hosts at a party Monday evening when guests were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Giblin, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Burke and Mr. and Mrs. John Laird.
The three men had all recently been discharged from the service.
Cards were entertainment during the evening.
Mrs. C. L. Morris had as guests at dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Rhoads, Mr. and Mrs. Ray B. Rhoads and Miss Margaret Lester, all of Billings.
Mrs. Lois Mehling was a guest from Great Falls last week of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Warfield.
Ted Gorton, of the Conoco Service Station, left Tuesday morning for Fort Collins, Colo., and North Platte, Neb., where he will visit for 10 days with relatives. During his absence Mrs. Gorton is in charge of the Laurel station.
The Hi-Light club held its monthly meeting at the home of Charlene Gass. Shirley Wilson led a discussion on "Student Cooperation."
Games were played and Mrs. Gass served refreshments.
John O. Laird arrived home this week from the service. He was discharged last week after reaching the States from the Pacific. He entered the service in March 1943 and had been overseas since March 1944. The last of his hitch was in the vicinity of Manila. Before going into the army he operated the Laird Radio-Electric shop on First avenue, which he expects to reopen. He left this week for Butte and Helena to buy a stock of merchandise and parts. His wife spent the duration at the home of her parents in Helena.
Evergreen Rebekah lodge No. 86 met Monday evening at the L. L. club. Lunch was served by Mrs. Geneva Butts, Mrs. Laura Carter and Mrs. Edna Colson.
Drill team practice was held after the lodge session.
Miss Nan Wilcox, daughter of Rev. M. J. Wilcox of Laurel, was recently initiated into membership of the Women's Recreation association on the campus of Willamette University, Salem, Ore.
Miss Wilcox is a freshman and pre-nursing major.
T-5 Richard D. Whittaker of Laurel is one of 1,009 army veterans returning to the States for discharge.
He is aboard the U. S. S. Westmoreland, an attack transport of the "Magic Carpet" fleet.
The ship left Pearl Harbor Jan. 26 and was scheduled to arrive in San Pedro about Feb. 1.
The Westmoreland carried both troops and cargo as a unit of the navy's supply fleet which supported the U. S. offensive throughout the Pacific war.
The Bremerton, Wash., U. S. naval base reported Jan. 28 that Stuart E. Boyd of Laurel, aviation metalsmith third class, had been discharged that day at the personnel center. The following day, Jan. 29, the discharge of Solomon Kober of Park City, motor machinist mate third class, was reported.
George Deryckere left Monday morning for Los Angeles where he was called by the death of his nephew, Henry Deprez, who was with the medical corps for three years.
He participated in the battle of Okinawa and was discharged from the army last September.
The public relations office at Fort Lewis, Wash., has announced the discharge of Victor W. Kurk at that separation center.
William Freebury was discharged last week at Lowry Field, Denver.
He was in the service 39 months and had been at Pratt, Kans., of late. His branch of the service was the air corps.
On arrival here he called at the Outlook office to express his appreciation for the paper he had received while away.
He is a brother of J. E. Freebury.
Mrs. G. W. Palmer and Mrs. George Deryckere were dinner guests Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. George Streck, Jr.
Among the firms filing articles of incorporation with the secretary of state's office at Helena was H. F. Johnson of Billings, with officers H. F. Johnson, Jane Johnson, Katherine Mitchell, T. H. Burke of Billings, and Miss Ruby Wiechert of Laurel.
Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Hartley were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Kucera.
Mrs. Hildred Wheeler of Billings was a guest last week of her mother, Mrs. George Marsh.
