DARING ROBBERY.
The confectionary store of Mr. Mitchell, of Norfolk, was robbed on the morning of the 6th inst. (supposed between 1 and 2 o'clock). Three thousand dollars in specie was stolen from an iron chest, the key of which was first taken from Mr. M.'s coat pocket. At the time the store was entered, (says the Beacon,) three common watches were taken from a glass case, and a handsome gold watch, chain and seals and some trinkets from a small trunk on the opposite side of the store to that on which the iron chest was kept. In the chest was also about $700 in bank notes, which were left behind, doubtless from an apprehension that their liability to be identified, might lead to a discovery of the thief. A man and a boy of about 15 slept in the rooms back of the store, the inner doors were usually left open, and two powerful and very sharp dogs were commonly let loose within the store, who would have frustrated the designs of the most daring—but unfortunately upon this occasion, one of the inner doors being closed, they were confined to the room the most remote from the store. The loss to Mr. M. is very heavy, being the savings from his industry for several years.
