Full Text

A federal Lie detected.

It being impudently and falsely asserted that the republicans in our last legislature refused to pass a law to admit truth in evidence, we can assure our readers that a bill to that effect has passed both houses; but that it was delayed so long in its passage by the repeated motions, harangues and quibblings of the federal lawyers and their colleagues, that it was not sent to the council of revision till within few days of the adjournment, in consequence of which it cannot become a law till the first day of the next session. It should be noted that an attempt made by Messrs. Ambrose Spencer and De Witt Clinton to introduce such a law was defeated by the federalists, who uniformly resisted every attempt of the kind during their continuance in power.
