ORGANIZING CORPS TO FIGHT FOREST FIRES

The office of civilian defense in Connecticut, realizing that the problem of forest protection is becoming increasingly difficult because of dwindling manpower, has created an organization to be known as the Forest Fire Fighters Service. State Forester Austin Hawes has been appointed coordinator of this service in Connecticut. Mr. Hawes said Sunday that the organization will be invaluable to forest fire wardens who are already having difficulty in securing men for fire fighting. The state coordinator is planning to offer a short course which will be given to young people in the high schools and to adults at evening sessions.
