Berlin Paper Denies That William Will Attend Coronation of King Edward.
WILL ALSO IGNORE MEMORIAL SERVICE.
England Aroused by Taunts of German Legislator Who Casts Reflection Upon the British Army and Denounces Joseph Chamberlain as an Infamous Scoundrel.
Berlin, Jan. 13.—Following close after the snub administered to Great Britain on the subject of the prince of Wales, earlier in the week (when the semi-official North German Gazette denied that Emperor William had urged the prince of Wales to visit Berlin on the occasion of his majesty's birthday celebration, pointing out that the prince had been invited at the request of King Edward), the North German Gazette Saturday pointedly denies that Emperor William will attend either the memorial service in honor of the late Queen Victoria or the coronation of King Edward. The paper says the statements of the English papers are untrue. Regarding the coronation, the North German Gazette points out that it is not in accordance with traditional international usage for sovereigns to attend coronation festivities of foreign monarchs.
Anger in England.
London, Jan. 13.—The anger of the English people is rising rapidly with the repeated attacks on the British army made in public debate in the German reichstag. The Times this morning, after declaring that seldom if ever has a friendly nation been so grossly insulted, warns the kaiser that the limit of British patience will be overstepped if Chancellor von Buelow continues to wipe his feet on the king's uniform. The Times says:
"Seldom, if ever, has a friendly nation been so grossly insulted in a foreign parliament, and never within our memory has insult met with such mild rebuke from the representative of a friendly power with whom he professes to desire the maintenance of good relations as Count von Buelow thought sufficient to inflict on Herr von Sonnenberg. Even brigands and thieves may know how to die. What we have a right to expect from the minister of a friendly state is a definite repudiation of the calumnies uttered within his hearing."
Limit Nearly Reached.
"With regard, not to the British soldiers dead, but to those who are living, we must state frankly and emphatically that the limit of British patience will be overstepped if Count von Buelow imagines he can court British friendship and at the same time use the king's uniform, in which our kinsmen are fighting honorably in South Africa, in order to wipe his parliamentary feet upon it."
Attack in German Reichstag.
Berlin, Jan. 13.—Another savage attack was made on Joseph Chamberlain during the budget debate in the reichstag Friday. Herr Liebermann von Sonnenberg, whose hatred of Englishmen and Jews is coequal, delivered a furious tirade against England and Mr. Chamberlain.
