Full Text

From the Providence Journal.

The Newport Ruin.-Captain Fatio, of the revenue cutter stationed at Newport, intends to make an excavation, to-day, around the old stone mill at Newport, for the purpose of ascertaining if any foundation exists, or other evidences by which the original design of this remarkable structure may be ascertained. Just about a year ago we published a long article, prepared with some care, upon this subject, in the course of which the writer investigated the claims of this structure to Scandinavian origin and to antiquity as high as the twelfth century, to neither of which we could assent. Capt. Fatio has a theory of his own upon it, and has determined to push his investigations with the spade and shovel.
