Full Text

Versailles, (in France) Oct. 14. Yesterday arrived an Officer, dispatched by the Duke d'Aiguillon in order to come to a final Resolution with the Council concerning the Expedition which he is to command. The Ministry has not dropp'd that honourable Resource. There is only one Stroke necessary, if it be well executed, to bring to nothing all the Advantages the English are so proud of. It is pretended that Orders have been sent to the Marshal de Conflans to sail from Brest with his whole Squadron in Quest of the English Fleet.

After being ruined in America, foiled in Asia, undone in Africa, and baffled in Germany, we must confess it is a very Honourable resource, on their Part, to strike at the Root of all the Mischief that has been done them.

Event Details

An officer dispatched by Duke d'Aiguillon arrived yesterday to resolve final plans with the Council for the expedition he commands. The Ministry persists with this honorable resource. One well-executed stroke could nullify English advantages. Orders reportedly sent to Marshal de Conflans to sail from Brest with his squadron in search of the English fleet. Commentary notes English ruins in America, Asia, Africa, and bafflement in Germany, viewing this as their honorable counter to mischief done to them.
