The Cause of their Quarrel was as follows: The Lieutenant Colonel, when at Strasburg, placed the Hat of the Captain properly on his Head whilst the latter was under Arms, but the Manner of doing it was attended with some Marks of Indignity; upon which some Words ensued, and the Captain was ordered under an Arrest.
As the Captain considered himself insulted by the Lieutenant Colonel, he threw up his Commission, called out the Lieutenant Colonel, and wounded him. They afterwards met at Lyons, where they again fought, and both were wounded.
The Regiment being ordered to Dunkirk, the Captain followed it, and again called out his Adversary. They agreed now to fight with Pistols; accordingly on Sunday Morning last they discharged seven at each other, but nothing happened decisive. It was agreed once more on Tuesday; the Captain then prevailed, the Lieutenant Colonel received two Shots, of which he died on Wednesday.
