Full Text
Election officials and party leaders of the county are making an effort to acquaint the general public with the fact that every individual who votes in the primaries of May 25 must register anew during the period the registration books will be open.
The books open Saturday, April 27, and will remain open for two weeks, through Saturday, May 11. Registrars have all been named for this county already, and in a few days will be equipped with new registration books. One book will be for Democrats, one for Republicans, and a third one for registration for the general election in November.
The Vance County Board of Elections recently ordered a new registration for the county, under the revised election law enacted by the 1939 General Assembly. The old books will be discarded, as those whose names do not appear on the new books will be barred from participating in the primary election of May 25.
It is feared that the absence of contests for some of the major offices of the county will result in a slackening of interest which may to some extent reduce the registration and general qualification of citizens to vote in the primary. To that end, every effort is to be exerted to get out voters during the registration period.
