INDICTED BANKERS GET VENUE CHANGE
Prejudice Affidavit Sustained for Men Accused of Wrecking Depository.

RACINE, Wis., Jan. 24.-When arraigned for trial this morning in the municipal court here, the two indicted bankers, Charles Carpenter and B. Henrichs, whose frenzied financiering the grand jury blamed for the collapse of the Commercial and Savings bank, filed an affidavit of prejudice against Judge Smieding, and took a change of venue to the circuit court, which was granted pro forma, despite the objections of the district attorney.

The trial is thus of necessity postponed until the April term of court, when further delay is expected. Dist. Atty. William Storms, who is a candidate for re-election next fall, sees in the delay a scheme of the defendants' attorneys to defeat him at the polls in the hope of having the trial conducted by an inexperienced lawyer unacquainted with the intricacies of the case.

He says this would be of incalculable benefit to the defendants.
