JUNEAU, (P) - The State Director of Local Affairs has given up his post in hopes of joining the Presidential campaign staff of Sen. John Kennedy.
The resignation of Charles Hughes from the $12,500-a-year post he has held since last September was announced by the Governor's Office.
The former Kodiak and Ketchikan lawyer leaves next week for Washington, where he previously had served as administrative assistant to Rep. Ralph Rivers.
Roger Pegues, 27, now on the staff of the Legislative Council, will succeed Hughes as local affairs chief June 1. Pegues is a resident of Juneau.
Hughes, in addition to his local affairs duties, had served as head of rural development programs and as state hearing officer under the Administrative Procedures Act.
