Event Details
The Danes are fitting out 12 sail of the line to protect their Neutrality. There is reason to apprehend that the Court of Denmark is secretly inclined to favour the French Revolution, and to render it assistance. A Danish vessel laden with saltpetre and warlike stores from Copenhagen to France was about a fortnight since taken by one of our cruisers. On examining her cargo, some of the stores bear the mark as belonging to the royal arsenals at Copenhagen. This discovery has caused a strong memorial to be dispatched on Friday last from our Court to the British Envoy at Copenhagen, to be presented to the Danish Minister, requiring a categorical answer as to the views and future conduct of the Court of Denmark in regard to France.
