In the 43rd New York State Open Tennis Championships held at Catona Park, Bronx, N. Y., Bonnie Logan and Lenward Simpson completely crushed their opposition to win the Girls and Boys Championships.
Bonnie, the "Speed Queen," continued her devastating play in the Girls' Division under 18, by not losing a game until she reached the finals, losing only 23 points in the six sets. She beat Wanda Russell, Spring Gardens, N. Y., 6-0, 6-0, losing 4 points; also defeated Mary Couthern, New Haven, Conn., 6-0, 6-0, and Mary Beamer, Spring Gardens, N. Y., losing 4 points. In the finals she defeated Clara Copenhagan 7-5, 6-3, the favorite.
Simpson crushed John Tribble, New York City, 6-0, 6-0 in the finals of the Boys' Division and won the Boys' Crown without losing but one game.
