PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 11.

Extract of a letter from Paris, Aug. 6.

The men of observation in this capital cannot but smile, when they read in the English, and some American papers, serious apprehensions of a revolution in this country, in favor of royalty. Men of influence and property, under the old government, no doubt wish and desire it, and it is perfectly natural for them so to do. They have sense enough, however, to see that a counter revolution cannot now be effected without a profusion of blood, and it is beyond a doubt that active counter-revolutionists would be the first victims on the occasion. The fact is, as I see things here, the whole energy of the present citizenship of France is so linked in with the cause of the revolution; and a republican form of government, that an effort no less than that of the united nations could overturn the republican system. I see nobody here wishing, or wanting a change of the government, but a parcel of harpies and vultures, bred in indolence, the drones of the hive, the burden of society, who wish to subsist on the labour of the industrious, and, as of old, be fed and supported from the spendthrift table of monarchy. These animals of royalty, born without merit, tools adapted by nature to the burden of tyranny, are impatient under a want of elevation; and from the bloody ante-chamber of Robespierre, have transferred themselves into the interests of the vagabond Court of Louis XVIII. watching for the moment when to renew their infamous guillotinings, robberies, and murders. These are the wretches who would transfer the majesty of the French people to an individual insect called a king. But France is alive to her real interests; and after having vanquished the universe, and broken the despotic chains of fourteen centuries, she will not easily be allured into the bondage of Egyptian task-makers. They who count upon such a visionary event will certainly be deceived. Royalty is vanished like a dream--Men wonder how they have been so long deceived. The Republic is fixed on a firm basis, and while virtuous, may it be eternal.
