CONFIRM RUMOR AMERICAN GIRL MINE TO OPEN

MINE TO OPEN

A rumor that the old American Girl property near Ogilby, Imperial county, is to be reopened has been confirmed in a communication received at the El Centro Chamber of Commerce. The letter states that the Lucky Tiger Gold Mining company, an Arizona corporation with its headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., has taken a bond lease on the mining property known as the American Girl and that work has been started, with new machinery. The Lucky Tiger company, it was reported, have operated the El Tigre mine in northern Sonora, Mexico, for 25 years, making a record as a producer.

The American Girl property has not been operated for a number of years, but lies only one mile distant from the Hedges mine, which had $3,000,000 and at one time more than 1000 people lived near that mine.

It was a low-grade gold district, with values running from $5 to $7 a ton.

The El Centro chamber is informed that the American Girl has a large tonnage of ore actually developed and, with the present up-to-date methods of recovery it is predicted that the camp will be operating for many years. W. W. Lawhon, of Los Angeles, who has given the local chamber some of the information concerning the reopening of the mine, states that in his mind the American Girl mine can be compared in many ways to the famous Homestake mine of South Dakota, which has paid $67,000,000 in dividends and has been operating on low grade ore for 55 years, with average values of ores much less than they are in the American Girl mine.

Many owners of properties in this Cargo Muchacho mining district have been waiting for water and power to be brought into the district, holding their patents until that time. The fact that a power line now runs within six miles of the mine is believed to have a bearing on the revival which is promised in this district, according to the El Centro chamber.
