NEW YORK. Sept. 14.
To the PRINTER.
AS the curiosity of the Public is very much raised to know the destination of our forces. I have made it my business to get the best intelligence I possibly could from those who are acquainted with secrets in the camp; and the result of my enquiries. I send you for your paper, it is as follows; in the first place, I inquired when the forces were to proceed on the expedition ? They told me they were perfectly strangers to that matter. Secondly. I asked when they were to embark ; They answered and said they never heard. Thirdly. I required the number of troops ? They replied it was more than they knew. Fourthly I demanded the name of the officer who was to command in the expedition ? Their answer was, they could not tell. Fifthly. I asked to what place they were bound ? They said, they were ignorant of that. ... Lastly, I desired them to tell me whether there was to be any expedition at all or not ? They replied. they knew nothing of the matter. And this is all the material information that could be obtain'd by . Your humble Servant, A. B.
