FORT DAVIS, Tex., Oct. 27 (UP)—Limpia Creek, whose Spanish name means "clear," was muddy flood today as it recedes after bathing hundreds of acres of Davis Mountain orchard and range land with West Texas silt.
The creek rose up in a 12-foot wall of water yesterday to roar down Limpia Canyon, tearing up roadbeds, interrupting the fall roundup, inundating apple orchards, and isolating astronomers and engineers at McDonald observatory.
All telephone lines to the observatory atop Mount Locke, 17 miles from here, were ripped out by the flooded creek. The main road leading to the structure was washed out for 200 yards and back trails were under water. No word had been received from the observatory crew, but it was believed they were in no danger as food and water supplies there were ample and the creek was subsiding rapidly.
