Manager Of Veteran Club Shot By Patron Who "Wouldn't Pay Bill"

The manager of a newly-opened Westside veterans club was shot at a critical spot early Saturday morning when he attempted to persuade an allegedly belligerent patron to pay his liquor bill, police said.

Victim of a gunshot wound of the upper right thigh was a man police identified as Willie Armour, 30, 111 Scott St., N. W., who is also a Fulton County Deputy Sheriff at County Jail in addition to his duties at the club.

Police quoted Armour as saying a man he identified as "Homer Aycock, 26," along with a man identified as "Bill" and another unidentified man entered his club, joined another couple at a table, and then consumed approximately nine dollars worth of liquor and beer.

Armour was further quoted as saying the couple that the trio had joined willingly paid their liquor bill and that the man identified as "Bill" also paid his, however, "Aycock" and the other boy refused to pay their part of the tab.

The three men left the establishment and were followed by Armour who demanded that Aycock and the other boy pay their bills before leaving the premises, police said. It was then that Armour was shot after Aycock reportedly warned that he "didn't want any stuff out of Armour," the report showed.

Police said Armour listed Aycock as the man who fired the bullet into his thigh. The victim was further quoted as saying two other patrons of the club took him to Grady Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to Hughes Spalding Pavilion where he was listed as fair Saturday morning.
