Use the Land.
Paying taxes on idle land is not only bad business, but an economic folly when pastures can be grown on the land. Sow more pasture land.
This is a good time of the year to put in some profitable labor on the farm by sowing orchard grass, blue grass and clovers. No one will have much time for this next spring. Good pastures are the basis on which all successful livestock raising is based. Take the guess work out of livestock by preparing plenty of good pasture that can be utilized the year round.
Orchard.
Don't forget the home orchard.
This is the best time of the year to set the home or commercial orchard.
A variety of fruit should be planted so that the family may be supplied with fruit the year round. Those who have orchards don't forget that this is the ideal time of the year to prune and spray the orchard. The San Jose scale can be killed by spraying with oil emulsion spray. It is well to give the trees two sprayings while they are in a dormant state. You can get oil emulsion spray from any of the supply houses that handle spray material. One gallon of oil emulsion spray should be diluted with 33 gallons of water before applying to the trees. Your county agent can help you locate the spray, and can furnish you an excellent bulletin chock full of real information. This is a bulletin put out by the Experiment Station at Fayetteville.
