Extract of a letter from Dublin, June 26.
On Sunday last the Rev. Walter Blake Kirwan, the gentleman who conformed from the Roman Catholic to the established religion, preached his initiatory sermon to the 1st communion at St. Peter's church. His text was taken from the Ephesians, 6th chapter and 4th verse, 'And ye fathers provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurturing and admonition of the Lord.' His discourse was on the advantages of a good education, contrasted with that of a bad one. He was in the pulpit an hour and three minutes. The crowd was so great, that it was found necessary to procure Mr. Sheriff Fleming to attend, to preserve order and decency in the church.
Mr. Kirwan's sermon on Sunday last, makes no small a degree of noise in town, not only by those who composed the congregation, but also by the many disappointed in hearing him. He is the son of a gentleman of ancient family and considerable fortune in the county of Galway, and was entered as a minor friar in the Franciscan convent of Galway by his uncle, the present titular-primate of Ireland.
