Petitions Ask Investigation Phone Service

Four points of a letter addressed to the Public Service Commission by a Mingo County Bar Association committee appear also in a petition being circulated among local business men and public officials.

Letter and petition protest the rate increase requested by the C. & P. Telephone Co., hearing on which is to be held in Charleston September 29.

Committee of the local bar association is composed of Attorneys J. Walter Copley, chairman, O. C. Van Camp and John J. Justice.

Petition today had 42 signers, all local business men and public officials. All county and city officials have signed, Attorney Copley said.

The four points of the letter and petition:

1. Request the Public Service Commission to investigate the cause of the poor and inadequate service rendered the people of Williamson and environs by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone company and to do what is necessary to have the cause corrected.

2. Protest any increase in rates by the telephone company in so far as they affect the City of Williamson and environs.

3. Demand a decrease in rates charged by the telephone company for services in Williamson and environs until such time that said services are improved.

4. Request that a hearing be had in the City of Williamson in order that the testimony given at that time may be before the Public Service Commission at the hearing at Charleston on September 29 concerning rates and increase of rates by the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone company.
