Territorial Treasurer Oscar G. Olson, Democratic National Committeeman for Alaska, has received word from Chairman Frank C. Walker of the Democratic National Committee that Edwin W. Pauley, Secretary, has resigned due to business pressure and George E. Allen of Mississippi has been appointed to succeed him.
Pauley will remain, however, as Acting Treasurer.
Allen, well-known business executive, is a member of the board of directors of a number of important corporations. He has served three years as Commissioner of the District of Columbia and is well-known for philanthropic work, being vice-chairman of the Infantile Paralysis Foundation and National Chairman of the March of Dimes Committee.
He also is special assistant to the Chairman of the American Red Cross, Norman Davis, and has served as his representative overseas. He also is a member of the Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of America.
Allen is a nephew of John Allen, who, for 30 years, was a member of Congress from Mississippi. Allen was an intimate associate of the late Sen. Pat Harrison, and always has been active in the work of the Democratic Party.
