The Bellicose Bushmen Thirst for his Blood.
Denver, Col., July 20.—There was a hostile meeting at the Windsor hotel yesterday morning between ex-Senator Tabor and Mr. James Bush, the brother of W. H. Bush, Tabor's former friend and partner. While it seemed to be of a personal nature, the real animus, it is believed, comes from the litigation between Tabor and W. H. Bush. The suit of Tabor against Bush for embezzlement, in which Bush was acquitted, was the origin of the bad feeling. This suit for the recovery of $21,000 is still pending, while W. Bush has a suit against Tabor for $100,000. The immediate cause of the difficulty this morning was a little squabble about a hack-stand in front of the Tabor opera house. By Tabor's direction Chief of Police Smith had instructed his officers to allow a certain space in front to be occupied by the hackmen. James Bush, who is proprietor of a livery stable, obtained permission from the saloon proprietor to stand one of his hacks in this reserved place. Mr. Tabor objected. James Bush called on Tabor and asked what he had against him, when Tabor refused to talk with him. Bush then defied him and all his relations, and heaped upon him all manner of abuse and epithets. Tabor, believing his life to be in danger, quickly stepped into the elevator and returned to his room. Subsequently he called upon the authorities of the city. A special officer was detailed to guard him, and by instruction of the chief the entire police force was placed at Tabor's command in the event he should need any of them. Mr. Tabor was interviewed during the afternoon while he was under guard of an officer, and he stated positively that the quarrel which Jim Bush tried to force upon him was only a pretext for a chance to kill him. He said he felt that his life was constantly in danger. He did not fear Bill Bush, but believed Jim Bush would kill him on the slightest provocation.
