The legislature of South-Carolina has lately passed an act of assembly, appointed Circuit Courts through the province; which for this purpose is divided into eight districts: And the office of provost-marshal being set aside, sheriffs are to be appointed; for which purpose the provincial judges are to name three persons, out of which the governor selects one. But the most remarkable clause in the act, is that which provides and settles salaries on the justices of the supreme court, on condition his Majesty will grant them patents during good behaviour. In this case the chief Justice is to have L. 500, & the associate justices L. 300 sterl. per annum.
