Anaconda Has Three of the Youngest Salvationists in the Country.
It is not generally known that there is in Anaconda three of the youngest members of the Salvation army, but this is a fact, and there is not in the United States three more earnest workers than these young people. These members are the children of Capt. M. I. Brown, who recently arrived from Lewiston, Idaho, and is in charge of the local barracks. Their names are Raphael, aged 10 years, Lillie, aged 8 years, and Gertie, the youngest, who is 6 years of age. They joined the army about one and a half years ago in New Westminster, B. C., and since then have been members of their father's staff. Every evening when the army goes out on parade they are to be seen in the ranks and they take part in the exercises, the boy carrying the drum and the two girls the tambourines. Captain Brown has been in the army for the last three years, his last post having been at Lewiston, Idaho. "We have a very large field to work in," said Captain Brown last evening, "and I believe that we will be successful, for Anaconda is a good moral town. This afternoon we had a very enthusiastic meeting in the county jail and the prisoners showed interest in the proceedings. We don't expect to confine our work to this side of the city, but we will also go to the bad lands, where we expect to do good. We will turn no one from the door and any one who comes to the barracks will find a helping hand. We feel sure that we will find some soldiers in Anaconda and these local members will do a lot of good, as they are acquainted with the ins and outs of the city. As the winter season approaches, I would like to ask the citizens of Anaconda if they would not look about their house and see if they have any cast-off clothing. If so, they could notify us and we will call for it and distribute it to people who are greatly in need of garments."
