ORES AVERAGE FIVE PER CENT COPPER
When the Plant is Increased in Capacity it Should Yield Handsome Returns.
It has been fully demonstrated that the leaching process for the ores of the Lone Star district is a success. This has been proven by Mr. Williams at the little leacher located across the river. Between 500 and 600 tons of ore has been taken out of the old Horse Shoe mine and has been given a thorough test and it averages 5 per cent copper with small values of both gold and silver.
Millions of tons of leaching are not lower than 5 per cent in copper can be mined in the Lone Star district and the mining and hauling to the leacher can be done at a minimum cost, thereby giving to the operators of both mines and leacher handsome profits.
But not much can be done with the present leacher: it is too small. At least a 25-ton plant should be erected; a 50-ton would be better. This would stimulate the development of the mines and would be a money making proposition for the owners of the leacher.
It is hoped that the present company will soon see its way clear to erect a larger plant as several parties are waiting to see this done in order to begin taking out ore. If the present leacher is not enlarged it will not be long before another will be built by a new company for there is too much good leaching ore known to exist in the Lone Star district to remain buried much longer
In order to keep things moving Mr. Williams, instead of leaching copper, has lately been devoting himself to making blue stone. He has manufactured several hundred pounds as good blue stone as can be found in the world. There are only two places in the Territory where blue stone is manufactured. at the Safford leacher and at Clifton
At a meeting of the directors of the Safford company held last Monday night, it was decided to allow Mr. Williams to continue the manufacture of blue stone until at least the local demand is filled.
Mr. Williams declares there is more money in blue stone than in copper and hopes to be shipping it to all parts of the country in a short time.
A sample of blue stone manufactured at the Safford leacher may be seen in the Guardian office.
